Make vs n8n vs Zapier (2026): Which One Should You Actually Use?

A research-based comparison of Make, n8n, and Zapier — pricing, ease of use, AI features, and which wins for your situation in 2026.

Some links on this page are affiliate links. If you buy through them we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. We only recommend tools we have hands-on tested or thoroughly researched — and we label which is which.

Most comparisons rank these tools without a consistent yardstick. We judge all three against the same real use-case — a lead-response automation (form → AI qualify → Slack alert → personalized email) — on ease of use, pricing, and AI features. (Hands-on build walkthroughs with screenshots are in progress; this comparison is research-based and we’ll layer in the receipts as we publish each tool’s full test.)

TL;DR — who wins

  • Best for most people → Make. The visual builder is the clearest, the free tier is real, and at 35% the affiliate-friendliest if you ever recommend it. Our top pick.
  • Best for technical users / low long-term cost → n8n. Open-source, self-hostable, unlimited workflows for a flat server cost. Steeper curve.
  • Best for absolute beginners who live in one or two apps → Zapier. Easiest to start, biggest integration list (8,000+), but the priciest at scale and weakest value.

Ease of use

Maken8nZapier
Visual builder★★★★★ best★★★☆☆★★★★☆
Beginner-friendly★★★★☆★★☆☆☆★★★★★
Power / flexibility★★★★☆★★★★★★★★☆☆

Make’s canvas shows your data flowing through each step — the easiest to debug. Zapier is the simplest for a 2-step “if this then that.” n8n is the most powerful but assumes you’re comfortable with APIs and (ideally) self-hosting.

Pricing (the real cost)

  • Zapier: free (100 tasks/mo), then ~$20–50/mo and climbs fast with volume.
  • Make: free tier, paid from ~$9/mo, credit-based — cheaper per operation than Zapier.
  • n8n: free if self-hosted (just your ~$10–40/mo server), or cloud from ~$20/mo. Cheapest at scale by far.

AI & agents in 2026

All three added AI. Make’s AI agents are the fastest to build visually; n8n is the most flexible if you bring your own models/RAG; Zapier’s AI is fine but the platform’s cost makes heavy AI use expensive.

Our verdict

For 90% of small businesses: start with Make. If you’re technical and cost-sensitive: n8n. If you just want the absolute simplest 2-step automation and don’t mind paying: Zapier.
